Newman LLP Wins Trade-Secret Case in the Seattle Federal Court on Personal Jurisdiction Grounds

Newman LLP attorneys Derek Newman and Keith Scully won a trade-secret case in the Seattle federal court for their clients, College Life Italia and its principals. The firm’s clients are based in Minneapolis and Italy. After a Seattle-based company sued them in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, the firm asked the court to dismiss because the United States Constitution doesn’t permit the lawsuit in Seattle. The court granted the motion and dismissed the lawsuit. This decision is one of several recent wins for the firm based on personal jurisdiction and shows how a case can be won on a motion before the client is required to pay significant trial fees.
